ESTONIAN CHAMBER OF ORIENTAL DANCE

COMPETITION

All participants are welcome to the Oriental Dance Competition of the 16th Oriental Dance Festival in Tallinn, to compete in the following categories:

  • Professional soloists - participation fee 35 EUR
  • Amateur soloists - participation fee 25 EUR
  • Groups - participation fee 10 EUR/dancer

The competition prizes are provided by our festival sponsors and various partner festivals, which we present regularly on our social media channels.Participants in the competition will receive written feedback from the judges after the competition.

Registration for the competition is no longer open.

RULES


  1. To participate in the competition, you must fill out the registration form and pay the competition participation fee within 24 hours after registration. The registration form and payment link are located at the bottom of the page.
  2. The music file must be sent to: info@orientaldance.ee
  3. The name of the music file must contain the contestant's name.
  4. The members of the jury are festival teachers and guests. The members of the jury will be introduced on our website and on our social media channels.
  5. The festival organiser reserves the right to make necessary changes to the rules of the competition, and the organizer is obliged to immediately inform the already registered participants.
  6. The competition prizes are provided by the festival's sponsors and partner festivals.
  7. The jury evaluates each contestant in a 5-point system in the following categories:
  • choreography and musicality - interpretation of music, using the stage, choreography as a whole; also formations for groups category
  • technique - quality of movement
  • image - costume and image suitability with chosen style and dance
  • charisma - self-expression, emotions, communication with audience
  • synchronicity (in Groups category) - group unity and synchronicity

Category of Professional Soloists

  • In this category, we welcome dancers who engage in Oriental dance on a professional level - who work (offer a paid service) as a performer and/or teacher of Oriental dance.
  • Length of music is maximum 3 minutes.
  • Contestants are allowed to use different dance props. It is forbidden to perform with live fire.
  • Permitted styles are: oriental, mejance, lyrical song, tarab, classical song. Short fragments of folklore and a drum solo are allowed within these styles.

Category of Amateur Soloists 

  • In this category, we welcome dancers who engage in Oriental dance on an amateur level - who do not work (do not offer paid services) as a performer or teacher of Oriental dance. It doesn't matter how long you have been dancing, everyone is welcome!
  • Length of music is maximum 3 minutes.
  • Contestants are allowed to use different dance props. It is forbidden to perform with live fire.
Amateur soloists compete in three style-based subcategories:
  • Raks Sharki (oriental, mejance, lyrical song, tarab, classical song, golden era);
  • Folklore (saidi, baladi, shaabi, nuubia, ghawazee, hagalla, khaleegy, eskanderani, fellahi);
  • Show and fusion (Show, fusion and fantasy styles have to include recognizable oriental dance technique at least 60% of the dance).


Category of Groups

  • In this category, we welcome groups with 2 or more dancers. 
  • Length of music is maximum 3 minutes.
  • Contestants are allowed to use different dance props. It is forbidden to perform with live fire.
Groups compete in three style-based subcategories:
  • Raks Sharki (oriental, mejance, lyrical song, tarab, classical song, golden era);
  • Folklore (saidi, baladi, shaabi, nuubia, ghawazee, hagalla, khaleegy, eskanderani, fellahi);
  • Show and fusion (Show, fusion and fantasy styles have to include recognizable oriental dance technique at least 60% of the dance).

PARTICIPATION FEE


The participation fee must be paid within 24 hours after registration.
